Inspired by Traditional practice
CONTEMPORARY ISLAMIC ART
Leicester-based
Fine Artist and Calligrapher, Shazia Rashida Osman practices Heritage Fine Arts inspired by Islamic tradition.
Her work is heavily informed by studies of ancient manuscripts, particularly those from the Maghreb, and North Africa.
Incorporating the traditional techniques of Calligraphy and Illumination, she aspires to convey her love for the written word, and gain closeness to the Divine.
Elevating her work
with the use of precious materials such as hand-crushed shell gold, 24k gold leaf, earth pigments and handmade paper, she takes delight in experimenting with unusual combinations of paper, pigment and ink.
Her compositions are contemporary and unique in their style, whilst being inspired by the work of past masters.
Visual narratives
enable Rashida to explore a unique Islamic Art genre and style.
Combining the Abstract-like quality of Modern Art, with beautiful Calligraphy in the Maghrebi Script, her Art style brings a fresh perspective to Modern Islamic Art.
Her latest body of work, "Transcendence" is available to collect.
A champion of the Arts,
she has ventured into curation and project management, with the aim of bringing more awareness and appreciation of Islamic Art, and its practitioners, especially within Leicester.
She produces and curates projects, which she has called "Parables of Light". Learn more about her projects below
